The three one-hour sessions will walk attendees through basic cyber hygiene principles in non-technical, bite-sized segments, explaining risks, common attack methods and offering practical suggestions to help avoid falling victim. In between each weekly session, GCA will support attendees in implementing tools from the GCA Cybersecurity Toolkit for Small Business. The series is free to attend and will run weekly throughout April 2021 with the first webinar taking place on April 14. Listers, The Kenya Constitution 2010 provides in Article 35: - 35. Access to information (1) Every citizen has the right of access to-- (a) information held by the State; and (b) information held by another person and required for the exercise or protection of any right or fundamental freedom. (2) Every person has the right to the correction or deletion of untrue or misleading information that affects the person. (3) The State shall publish and publicise any important information affecting the nation. Following this, the Kibaki administration launched Kenya Open Data Initiative (KODI) in 2011. KODI was hailed as the *first such programme in sub-saharan Africa <https://www.centreforpublicimpact.org/case-study/open-data-kenya#:~:text=In….>* by the *Centre for Public Impact*. Unfortunately the focus on updating this data lost steam, as it stands today ONLY 970 datasets have been uploaded to the system. The last update seems to have been made in 2017.Below is a graph of the dataset uploaded between 2011 and 2017: - [image: Capture.PNG] My interest in KODI was to gather information on utilisation of USF. Unfortunately no info on USF is there on KODI. Additionally, KODI seems to be on UPDATE LEAVE since 2017. This initiative is under the ICT Authority, it would be helpful to know why updates are not forthcoming when this is a constitutional right as per Article 35 of Kenya constitution 2010. This timely round-table brings together a range of leading female voices in tech to confront the deep-rooted gender imbalances skewing the development of artificial intelligence. Today critics charge that AI feeds on biased data-sets, amplifying the existing the anti-female biases of our societies, and that AI is perpetuating harmful stereotypes of women as submissive and subservient. Is it any wonder when only 22% of AI professionals globally are women?* Our panellists are female change-makers in AI. Evidence shows that by 2022, 85% of AI projects will deliver erroneous outcomes due to bias. AI Recruiters searching for female AI specialists online just cannot find them. Companies hiring experts for AI and data science jobs estimate fewer than 1 per cent of the applications they receive come from women. Women and girls are 4 times less likely to know how to programme computers, and 13 times less likely to file for technology patent. They are also less likely to occupy leadership positions in tech companies. Liz, Ali and Barrack, I would add that what I have seen from Facebook is that they "smelt blood in the water" during the pandemic. There is a bigger picture here. 1. Those of us who are “BBC" (Born Before Computers) can talk of walking away and life continues. But any urbanite born after Windows 95 does not have the “luxury”. The pandemic simply made digital interaction “essential" 2. Facebook has a collective “population” across their platforms of almost 3 billion. Let’s take 10% and assume these will do commerce on their platforms. That is a market the size of the USA or Europe north of the Alps or Nigeria combined with South Africa. 3. For developers, Facebook has introduced things like the Instagram Content Publishing API, which means "Instagram Business accounts can schedule and publish posts to their Instagram Feeds from third-party platforms.” Think integration with ERPs and CRMs. 4. And just like Microsoft and lately AWS, Facebook has created Facebook Developer certification so that one can be a technical expert in Facebook marketing products. <- A job right there that did not exist six months ago. Just keep in mind the market being addressed here. The train left the station, as Barrack said. The potential money the "post BBC” generation on FB and other platforms are likely to make, considering people like Elsa Majimbo, are too tantalising to turn away from. These are the choices this generation has. Either one starves in a country run by thieves or jumps onto the digital platforms and make a life for oneself. Elsa’s dad told her that this “Internet” thing is getting in the way of her studies, considering that she is quite smart. Guess how that conversation went ... Privacy, what privacy? Even if I say I want the contents of my emails to be “private” on Gmail, what I are really concerned about is how Google uses the access to my information in my InBox and how it “secures" it against leakage from "unauthorised” parties. Data “privacy” is concerned with "how data is shared with third parties.” What people are interested in is the security or protection of data, not privacy in the “private” sense. A vast majority on Facebook platforms are going nowhere. Apple is playing the same game here with their “hardware” platforms, just more subtle. Listers, Not sure if you've seen the stir online of changes to the ToS with Safaricom's home offering. Safaricom is destroying Home Fibre with new ‘Fair Usage’ Limits: https://tech-ish.com/2021/02/14/safaricom-is-destroying-home-fibre-with-new… The response from the company has been disappointing in the extreme, misleading with statistics and suggesting that it's best customers are thieves <https://twitter.com/Safaricom_Care/status/1360876964651929600>, never mind that working for home has lead to increased demand and use of their services. All this is beside the point, at least for this forum, what I'm concerned about this that if we didn't have an eagle-eyed blogger looking out for this, it would have been completely missed until it was already in place. So I have a few of questions: 1. Does the CA have any policies around ToS changes around services under their purview and how they are communicated to users? 2. Should companies that run what could be considered critical infrastructure be allowed to arbitrarily change their ToS to apply retroactively especially if it's to the detriment of their customers? 3. If customers choose not to accept a change in ToS what redress do they have given that perhaps the provider is the only one available in their area. 4. Finally, given that we know this could all be avoided if there was more competition in the fibre market, what is the CA doing to make it so that we have more competition in that area?
