Listers, This is indeed good news. We have a lot of hope in Mucheru and Victor Kyalo industry veterans who have indeed worked their way through the trenches. Most importantly we hope to see the return of a multi stakeholder form of engagement in the sector which we have been yearning for in a while. I think as a sector we might need to prepare a wish list for our new leaders and most importantly commit to work with them towards achieving their mandate. The reshuffle is timely still it comes at the end of the year and will allow us to start 2016 on a new slate. Urgent Inquiry: Potential Internet Shutdown and Restriction of Rights in Kenya

While the Communication Authority said it had no intention to restrict internet access, the current situation raises serious red flags. It appears to contradict the Kenyan constitution and international human rights law, which guarantee fundamental freedoms like freedom of expression, access to information, and peaceful assembly. These rights are essential for democratic processes to function properly. When citizens cannot freely communicate and hold their government accountable, it undermines the very foundation of a democracy. We urge you to investigate this matter with urgency and clarity. Kenya's 2024 Internet Shutdown: An Analysis

Kenya experienced its first significant internet shutdown on June 25, 2024, starting around 5:00 pm and lasting until approximately 12:30 am on June 26, 2024. Depending on who you ask, some services are still struggling indicating the possibility of more trottling. This shutdown coincided with the #RejectFinanceBill2024 protests, which saw unprecedented participation from the youth of Kenya.During the Internet shutdown, major networks such as Safaricom's 5G, 4G, and fiber services were affected. Neighboring landlocked countries that rely on undersea cables terminating at Kenya's coast, including Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi, also experienced connectivity issues.Despite prior assurances from the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) <https://x.com/CA_Kenya/status/1805311316719993274> that there would be no internet shutdown, the disruption occurred, raising several critical questions.Discussion Points: 1.
