Banks lose Sh60m in electronic theft

The report (see link below) suggests loss of approx Sh 60 M in 2 months. A recent report also indicated that losses may be in excess of 5 billion (??) annually. The financial services sector needs to do more to stem such losses. CBK needs to step up its game to push for higher standards of compliance with respect to security of information. Perhaps banks have no incentive to stem such losses! They can simply make up for them via small variation in interest rate! That way shareholders get a good return on their investment but the consumer gets to pay for it. Let’s start with the much hyped “beba pay” system. Having travelled numerously to America, Canada, South Africa and a few countries in Europe, I must inform Kenyans that they have been duped. No country in the world has imposed restrictions on their citizens using cash money to pay for transport services. Track your every moveThe only thing that is done with regard to enforcing the use of cards is that special discounts are offered to those who pay using their cards.The truth is that the government will track your every move from now henceforth since all the cards are connected to a central data base system. It appears big data analytics worked for the Germans actually. I am reminded of how Obama put together an 'army' big data analytics in a bunker and how that worked with him as well. I support calls for us to figure out how this can work for us somehow. Our newly rebranded communications regulator faces many challenges

Recently, the communications regulator formerly known as CCK rebranded, and is now known as the Communication Authority of Kenya.During the launch ceremony presided over by none other than President Uhuru Kenyatta, the chairman of the regulatory board handed over to the Exchequer a fat cheque of Sh4 billion in dividends from the previous year.
