Dear Members I wanted to check with you when is a good day for a quick meeting to discuss the way forward after Warigia and Sihanya have completed inserting comments on the draft ICT policy and prior to the UNESCO consultation meeting which will be held on the 27 and 28th. Final Inputs Draft ICT Policy

Dear all The Kenya ICT Action Network (KICTANet) is working on finalising inputs/comments on the draft ICT policy. We intend to make suggested additions and deletions on the draft document as suggested by PS James Rege ("therefore kindly provide us with suggested additions or deletions to the document so that we can enrich it with your insightful contributions as we move towards the finalisation of the document. Moderators meeting report

Dear Moderators and all I would like to thank all those who attended the moderators meeting on the 15th of April. Thanks to Dr. Sihanya and Warigia for offering to complete the work on collating all the comments in readiness for submission to the ministry information and communication. And Special thanks to PS James Rege for his support and encouragement. thanks. Find attached the minutes, prepared by Aida Kamau. And please note responsibilities and dates below. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Key responsibilities and dates: 1) Participants requested to give in specific sections to be included in the policy should do so by 20th April. They include: · Preamble and Preface- Alice munyua and Lucy and Florence Etta · Letter to moderators requesting list of those contacted, participants and contributors-Alice Munyua · Recommendation to government citing plan of implementation: Alice munyua and Lucy Goal ICT · Write-up in relevant part of the policy on the youth: Goal ICT · A write up on culture- ARCC 2) An email to be sent by end of the day to all participants and stakeholders on the process going on detailing the dates when they will be able to view the revised draft policy and by when they need to give feedback on the same. 3) Moderators deadline to send in their submissions to Ben Sihanya: midnight 21 April 2004 4) The writers ( Ben sihanya and Wairigia Bowman) and Alice Munyua will meet on the 25th and 26th of April for the actual writing. 5) Draft policy will be sent out to all stakeholders by the 26th midday 7) Feedback on the draft will be received until midday 27th April 8) Presentation to the Ministry by 1 may 2005.We shall need to discuss with the PS information communication about his availability for a breakfast meeting which could be used to formally present our comments. Thanks for the report. Just for the record, I didn't say that this was the first meeting to bring all the sectors together. The mutual reaching out between sectors has been an evolving process taking place over the last year or so, and culminating in such milestones as the last two National ICT Conventions, the ICT Visioning Workshop and the establishment of KICTANET. This meeting was another excellent manifestation of the trend, now well established. Thanks to all who made it possible. You're right: with a champion everything is possible; without one nothing is. We hope we'll find one in the Rotary world... but even the finding of the champion takes time and energy! With our teambuilding centre. The DEPOT, we are making some headway through the CSR route, as a way of leveraging/replicating a proven approach. In your case you initiated Cura and then had a group from the Rotary and the community to move it forward. In the case of SGC we have had Dr. Eddah Gachukia leading a number of us - mainly "girls" that work on a pro bono basis. This group split into committees, takes responsibility for moving decisions on planning, fundraising, recruitment etc forward. Our experience is that Corporate bodies are willing to engage with such initiatives but prefer to take "chunks" that are aligned to their own stated CSR areas or core business If one takes this approach and as long as it is seen as genuine the corp. fraternity seems happy to engage. [Kictanet] NEMA, Sustainable Development and the National ICT Policy

I agree and join FE in appreciating the occasional input from the PS. It gives us double benefit. One, it encourages us and assures us that our discussions shall (might?) eventually be incorporated in the National ICT policy and secondly, though quite broad it remains relevant and important...it makes us realise that indeed there is (might be?) some real change in government (after all).
